About the community
Hebron is a village of about 1,300 people tucked into the far northern edge of McHenry County, right against the Wisconsin border. It is the kind of place where the water tower is painted like a basketball, a permanent tribute to the 1952 Alden-Hebron team that remains the smallest school ever to win an Illinois state basketball title. Life here is rural and unhurried, with country markets, antique shops on Main Street, and hundreds of acres of conservation land just outside town. Buyers get small-village character and a modest median home value while still living within commuting distance of the Chicago metro. If you want acreage, quiet, and a tight-knit community over big-box convenience, Hebron is worth a look.

Hebron is small-town and rural at heart. Downtown offers antique shops, local restaurants, and a brick-oven pizza spot, while the edges of town give way to farms and country markets. The village's compact size means neighbors know one another, and the annual community traditions still draw a crowd.
Outdoor recreation is a major draw. Hebron sits near the Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge, a multi-county refuge connecting conserved land across the Illinois-Wisconsin line, and the McHenry County Conservation District manages roughly 25,800 acres of open space across the county. The surrounding back trails and conservation areas offer hiking, fishing, and wildlife watching close to home.

How Hebron got here
Hebron was incorporated as a village on October 21, 1895, and grew up as a small farming community in the far north of McHenry County, less than a mile from the Wisconsin state line. It has long functioned as a rural commuter village within the greater Chicago metropolitan area, keeping its agricultural roots while residents work across the region.
Hebron's identity is anchored by basketball. In 1952, Alden-Hebron High School, with an enrollment of just 98 students, won the Illinois High School Boys Basketball Championship with a 64 to 59 overtime victory over Quincy. At the time every school in the state competed for a single championship regardless of size, and Alden-Hebron remains the smallest school ever to win it. The village painted its water tower to look like a basketball in commemoration, and it still stands as the town's best-known landmark.

Your local agent
Most agents will list anything. I focus on the communities I actually know, and the details that determine resale value here aren't in the MLS write-up: which lots back to open space, which streets carry the most consistent demand, which floor plans buyers ask for by name, and what each HOA actually covers.
When you're ready to tour or list, you want someone who's walked the streets, talked to the residents, and read the last 50 closed comps in this market specifically. That's how I work. Text or call any time, and I'll give you a real take, not a brochure.
Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
