How Streamwood got here
The area that became Streamwood was known as Hoosier Grove and was home to dairy farmers from the 1830s through the 1950s. After World War II and the Korean War, returning veterans bought homes in instant subdivisions nationwide, many financed through the GI Bill. In 1956, L H Builders developed 21 pre-assembled houses on concrete slabs at the corner of Bartlett and Schaumburg Roads, shipped from Indiana by National Homes Corporation and assembled in under two weeks. Once enough homes and residents were established, the builder applied for incorporation, and the Village of Streamwood was incorporated in 1957.
The new village's first Village President and Board of Trustees were all employees of the construction company or its engineering firm, and early residents faced insufficient well systems, unpaved streets, and few services. Residents organized homeowners associations, and after overcrowding at the new Woodland Heights School forced split shifts in 1958, the Marching Mothers protested and were arrested for disorderly conduct. In 1962 Nick Kosan was elected Village President, ending builder control of the government. By the 1970s the village had grown past five square miles and over 18,000 residents, and Streamwood High School and the Poplar Creek Library opened. Access to Lake Michigan water in the 1980s allowed expansion past seven square miles, and the Oak Knolls Farms subdivision brought the Streamwood Oaks Golf Course.

Your local agent
Most agents will list anything. I focus on the communities I actually know, and the details that determine resale value here aren't in the MLS write-up: which lots back to open space, which streets carry the most consistent demand, which floor plans buyers ask for by name, and what each HOA actually covers.
When you're ready to tour or list, you want someone who's walked the streets, talked to the residents, and read the last 50 closed comps in this market specifically. That's how I work. Text or call any time, and I'll give you a real take, not a brochure.
Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
