How Wheeling got here
The first cabin in Wheeling Township was built in March 1833 by a settler recorded as Mr. Sweet, who sold it that September to George Strong, the township's first permanent resident. In 1834 Joseph Filkins opened the first tavern-hotel at the intersection of Dundee Road and Milwaukee Avenue, and a post office was established in Filkins' Tavern by 1835. In 1837 Russell Wheeler and Charles Daniels opened a general store and trading post nearby, and the settlement that grew around it became the Village of East Wheeling, later shortened to Wheeling. The village is named after Wheeling, West Virginia, and early industry included Napoleon Periolat's brewery, built in 1850, which operated until 1910.
Wheeling built its first railroad station in 1886 on the Soo Line, though it carried freight rather than passengers at the time. On June 18, 1894, residents voted at the Union Hotel to incorporate as a village, with 43 in favor and 3 against, and a Village President and trustees were elected the following month. The Milwaukee Avenue corridor later developed into the village's dining district, with Chef Jean Banchet's Le Francais opening in the 1970s and Bob Chinn's Crab House opening in December 1982. The general aviation airport now known as Chicago Executive Airport operated for decades as Palwaukee Municipal Airport before being renamed, and it is jointly run by Wheeling and Prospect Heights.
The questions buyers actually ask

Your local agent
Most agents will list anything. I focus on the communities I actually know, and the details that determine resale value here aren't in the MLS write-up: which lots back to open space, which streets carry the most consistent demand, which floor plans buyers ask for by name, and what each HOA actually covers.
When you're ready to tour or list, you want someone who's walked the streets, talked to the residents, and read the last 50 closed comps in this market specifically. That's how I work. Text or call any time, and I'll give you a real take, not a brochure.
Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
