Central High School sits on Plato Road in Burlington, but the families it serves come from across the western edge of Kane County: the far west side of Elgin, plus Pingree Grove, Hampshire, Campton Hills, Lily Lake, and the unincorporated stretches around Plato Center and Udina. This is where the Chicago suburbs ease into open country. You will find newer subdivisions and master-planned neighborhoods sitting just minutes from working farmland, horse property, and quiet two-lane roads. It is a popular choice for buyers who want a newer home and more elbow room without giving up access to the metro area.
Commuting works well from here. The Jane Addams Memorial Tollway, I-90, runs along the north edge of the area, giving drivers a direct shot toward O'Hare and downtown Chicago, and Metra's Milwaukee District West Line terminates at the Big Timber Road station in Elgin, a roughly 76-minute ride into Union Station on the full route. That combination of highway and rail is a big part of why this corner of Kane County has grown so steadily.
Day to day, the vibe is family-first and unpretentious. Downtown Elgin offers riverfront dining, the Hemmens Cultural Center, and the Grand Victoria Casino, while the western communities lean rural and residential with parks, forest preserves, and room to breathe. Housing skews toward newer construction and large-lot homes, with pockets of established and equestrian-style property mixed in, which gives buyers real range on price and style.

The school
Central 301 was founded in 1948 during Illinois' wave of school consolidation, and leaders chose the name 'Central' because the campus sat at a central point between the former Burlington and Plato Center high schools in rural Kane County. A combined junior and senior high opened along Plato Road in 1957. After rounds of expansion and a 1986 fire that destroyed the gym and cafeteria, voters approved a referendum for a new high school, and the current building opened on 'Rocket Hill' in 1991, with the original structure becoming Central Middle School. Though widely called 'Burlington Central,' the word 'Burlington' has never been part of the formal name, and the district uses the 'We Are Central' motto to unite students from nearly a dozen Kane County communities.
Central High School has been recognized for strong academic performance. On the 2023 Illinois State Board of Education Report Card, Central 301 had two schools rated 'Exemplary,' the top 10% statewide, and five rated 'Commendable.' Niche has consistently rated Central 301 an 'A' district and among the top unit school districts in Illinois.
Central competes as the Rockets and is a member of the Fox Valley Conference, which it joined for the 2019-20 school year. The school fields more than 24 sports and counts nearby Hampshire among its rivals.

Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
