The area, not just the school
Life around Geneva Community High School centers on one of the prettiest river towns in the Chicago suburbs. Geneva is the county seat of Kane County, set right along the Fox River, where the Fox River Trail and Illinois Prairie Path draw walkers and cyclists year round, and the historic Fabyan Windmill and Forest Preserve sit just south of town.
Downtown Geneva and the Third Street shopping district are the real draw: a walkable stretch of restored brick storefronts, boutiques, and restaurants that fill up for the Swedish Days festival and the holidays. Commuting is one of Geneva's biggest selling points. Geneva Station sits on Metra's Union Pacific West Line with direct service to downtown Chicago, and Illinois Routes 25, 31, and 38 tie the town into the wider Fox Valley between St. Charles to the north and Batavia to the south.
Housing runs from vintage homes near the historic core and walkable downtown blocks to newer subdivisions on the west side that filled in during the area's rapid growth from the late 1980s through the mid-2000s. Expect a move-up, family-oriented price feel rather than a starter-home market, with proximity to downtown, the train, and the river all carrying a premium.

The school
About Geneva Community High School
Geneva's high school history dates to 1876, when the first Geneva High School graduating class consisted of just two students, with early classes held downtown at 22 South Third Street on the site of the present post office. In 1923 the school moved to a then state-of-the-art building on Peyton Street, which later became Coultrap Middle School. The current Geneva Community High School building on McKinley Avenue opened in 1958 and was expanded in the 1970s and again in the early 2000s.
Geneva Community High School has a strong college-prep record. As of 2010 the school posted an average composite ACT score of 24.2 and graduated over 99 percent of its senior class, and 106 students earned Illinois State Scholar recognition. That same year, of the 206 students who took 302 Advanced Placement exams, 85 percent scored a 3, 4, or 5.
Geneva competes as the Vikings in the DuKane Conference and the IHSA. The school's signature tradition is its rivalry with neighboring Batavia, one of the oldest football rivalries in Illinois, with the two having met more than 100 times since 1913. Geneva teams have also captured IHSA state championships in girls cross country and girls basketball.
