Waubonsie Valley sits on the far east side of Aurora, right where the city blends into Naperville, in the heart of the highly regarded Indian Prairie District 204. This is classic Chicago-suburb commuter country: Interstate 88 runs just to the north for a fast drive into the Oak Brook and Loop job corridors, and the Route 59 Metra station on the BNSF line is one of the busiest in the suburbs, making a downtown Chicago commute realistic without owning the road. Aurora has long been a regional transportation hub served by I-88, Illinois Route 59, two Metra stops, and Pace bus service, which is a big part of why families settle here.
Housing around the school is dominated by the 1990s and 2000s subdivisions that filled in the far east side after development pushed out along the Eola Road and Route 59 corridors, so buyers find a deep mix of newer single-family homes and townhomes on planned, sidewalk-lined streets. Day-to-day shopping is easy with the Route 59 retail corridor close by, and the Chicago Premium Outlets and the rest of Aurora's retail are a short drive away. Aurora is Illinois's second-largest city, which means big-city amenities paired with a settled, family-friendly feel close to school.

The school
Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204 was formed in the fall of 1972, and in December 1972 voters passed a referendum to build and equip a high school. Construction on Waubonsie Valley began in the spring of 1973, and the school opened for its first school year in September 1975 with 293 students. Originally designed as an open campus with very few interior walls, the building was considered futuristic at the time, featuring a swimming pool, greenhouse, and planetarium. Over the years, major projects added three classroom wings, a field house, and an auditorium.
Waubonsie Valley is known beyond the classroom for one of the strongest music programs in the state, named a GRAMMY Signature School six times by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, including GRAMMY Signature Gold honors. The recognition spans the school's instrumental and vocal music departments.
Waubonsie Valley competes in the DuPage Valley Conference as the Warriors. The girls soccer program is the school's flagship state power, winning three IHSA state championships and finishing 30-0 in its 2006-07 title season. The girls bowling team added back-to-back IHSA state titles in 2013 and 2014.
