Mount Prospect sits about 20 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and roughly four miles north of O'Hare, which makes it one of the easier suburbs to live in if your life pulls you in a lot of directions. The Mount Prospect Metra station on the Union Pacific Northwest Line runs straight into Ogilvie Transportation Center downtown, so a car-free commute is realistic, and Pace bus service fills in the gaps around town. The village's longtime motto, where friendliness is a way of life, is corny in the way only a good suburb can be, and it fits.
Day to day, the draw is the downtown around the train station: a compact, walkable core of shops and restaurants that gives the village a real center of gravity instead of just strip malls. On the north side you have Randhurst Village, the redeveloped retail and entertainment hub, plus several park districts layering parks and programs across the area. It is a genuinely diverse community, with a large and growing Asian and Hispanic population alongside its longtime residents.
Housing here leans toward classic postwar single-family homes on settled blocks, with condos and townhomes clustered nearer downtown and the train. The mix of price points means buyers can find anything from a starter condo near the Metra to a larger family home a few blocks off the main streets.

The school
Prospect High School opened in 1957 as a freshman campus tied to the now-defunct Arlington High School, adding a grade each year until it became a full four-year school in the fall of 1960. The campus has grown steadily since, with a library added in 2002, an art wing around 2003, a cafeteria in 2004, a gym remodel in 2009, and a pool addition completed for the 2016-17 school year that ended years of aquatic teams traveling to Wheeling High School to practice.
Prospect is part of Township High School District 214 and serves grades 9 through 12. The school runs an unusually deep set of programs, including long-running foreign-language exchanges with schools in France, Italy, and Spain, Advanced Placement coursework across studio art, and a Mobile App Development course that made District 214 one of the first districts in the country to teach iOS development in Apple's Swift language.
Prospect competes in the Mid-Suburban League and is a member of the IHSA. The football program is the headliner, with three Class 7A state championships in a six-year span (2001, 2002, and 2005). The girls golf team has also been a state power, winning IHSA Class AA state titles in 2011 and 2013 and finishing second in 2012.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
