Living near Schaumburg HS

The area, not just the school

Living in Schaumburg means having one of the Chicago suburbs' true town centers at your doorstep. Woodfield Mall, the second-largest retail center in Illinois, sits in the middle of the village, surrounded by restaurants, IKEA, the Streets of Woodfield, and an endless mix of shops and entertainment. Whatever you need on a Saturday, it is usually a short drive away, and you rarely have to leave town to find it.

Getting around is just as easy. The Metra Milwaukee District West Line stops in Schaumburg and runs straight to Chicago Union Station, so a downtown commute or a night in the city does not require a car. For drivers, the I-90 and I-290 corridors put O'Hare International Airport only about ten miles away and connect you quickly across the northwest suburbs and the wider Golden Corridor of employers.

For all its convenience, Schaumburg keeps a grounded, family-friendly feel. The Spring Valley Nature Center and Heritage Farm offers trails, a working historic farm, and a natural playground, while the Schaumburg Park District and Wintrust Field add year-round recreation and minor league baseball. Housing runs from the thousands of single-family homes in the original Weathersfield neighborhoods to newer townhomes and condos near Woodfield, giving buyers options at a range of price points.

About Schaumburg High School

Schaumburg High School opened on September 17, 1970, roughly 31 miles northwest of downtown Chicago near what would become Woodfield Mall. It serves students from Schaumburg, the south side of Hoffman Estates, and northern Hanover Park as one of five high schools in Township High School District 211. The U.S. Department of Education named it a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1993. A major reconstruction in late 2008 added classrooms, a new grand foyer, and science labs, followed by roughly 20 million dollars in renovations completed in 2017 that included new cafeterias and athletic locker rooms.

Schaumburg High School is accredited by the North Central Association and holds full recognition status from the Illinois State Superintendent of Schools. It offers a broad slate of student opportunities, with 62 clubs and activities alongside its athletic programs, and its strong debate program has produced multiple state championships in Congressional, Lincoln-Douglas, and Public Forum debate.

Schaumburg competes in the Mid-Suburban League and is a member of the IHSA, fielding 24 athletic programs. The Saxons have captured IHSA state titles over the decades, including baseball, boys basketball, girls bowling, girls soccer, and multiple cross country championships for both boys and girls.

Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
