Palatine is a true hometown northwest suburb of about 68,000 people, and the area around the high school puts you minutes from a downtown that the village has spent more than two decades revitalizing. That investment brought a modern Metra station, a parking garage, and a wave of new condos, rowhomes, and shops, so you get walkable restaurants and a real town center alongside quiet residential streets. Community life leans into that hometown feel, with summer Streetfest in August, a big Fourth of July parade and fireworks, and an Oktoberfest that nods to Palatine's German roots.
For commuters, the Palatine Metra station sits on the Union Pacific Northwest Line with direct trains southeast to Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago, which is a major draw for buyers who work in the city but want suburban space. Housing character runs from postwar subdivisions and established single-family neighborhoods to the newer downtown condos and rowhomes, and the Palatine Park District adds pools and recreation centers plus access to nearby Cook County forest preserves like Deer Grove. Pair that with Township High School District 211 schools and you have an area that consistently appeals to families and move-up buyers.

The school
Palatine High School opened in 1875 as the first public high school in what are now the northwest suburbs of Chicago, and its operation was reorganized into a modern school district in 1914. Surging enrollment from postwar suburban growth and the baby boom drove repeated expansion through the 1950s, and the current three-story facility was completed in 1977. The campus has kept modernizing since, adding a math and foreign language wing in 2003, and in the 2025-26 school year Palatine High School celebrated 150 years.
Palatine High School is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, holding the oldest accreditation in District 211, dating to 1935, and 90 percent of the class of 2025 graduated. The school has twice earned the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Award and runs a strong applied technology and engineering program, including Project Lead the Way courses that can carry college credit, plus dual-credit pathways certified through Harper College.
Palatine competes in the Mid-Suburban League and the Illinois High School Association, and the Pirates own a deep championship history led by their distance program. The girls cross country team has won seven IHSA state titles and the boys cross country team won state in 2011, while boys gymnastics, badminton, girls bowling, and boys and girls soccer have also brought home IHSA crowns.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
