The area, not just the school
Plainfield blends small-town history with the comforts of a modern suburb, and that mix is a big part of why families love settling here. The village grew up along the banks of the DuPage River, which still winds right through the heart of town, and the walkable historic downtown along Lockport Street is full of local shops, restaurants, and community events that give the area a real sense of place.
Getting around is easy, which matters when you are raising a family or commuting to work. Route 59 and Route 126 connect the village to neighboring towns, and I-55 puts downtown Chicago within reach for commuters, with Metra rail service available in nearby communities for those who would rather leave the car at home.
The housing here leans toward newer construction, with established neighborhoods alongside the subdivisions that helped the village grow to roughly 44,800 residents at the 2020 census. Whether you are looking for a roomy family home near well-regarded schools or something with a little more land toward the edges of town, Plainfield offers a lot of choice at a friendly suburban pace.
