Carl Sandburg sits in Orland Park, about 25 miles southwest of downtown Chicago, in one of the south suburbs' anchor communities for shopping, dining, and family life. The La Grange Road corridor runs right through the heart of town, lined with everything from Orland Square Mall and national retailers to local restaurants, with the 143rd and 159th Street intersections forming the busiest commercial hubs. For buyers who want suburban space without losing the city, this is a sweet spot.
Commuting is a real selling point. The village is served by three Metra SouthWest Service stations that run into Chicago Union Station, putting downtown roughly 50 to 55 minutes away by train. Drivers get quick access to I-80 along the southern edge of the area, plus La Grange Road and 159th Street as main arterials, so trips to the city, the suburbs, or northwest Indiana are straightforward.
Housing in and around Orland Park is varied and approachable. You will find updated ranch and split-level homes, larger single-family houses, newer-construction pockets, and townhome communities, with single-family homes making up the large majority of the local housing stock. That range, paired with the schools and the commute, is what keeps families coming back to this part of the southwest suburbs.

The school
Carl Sandburg High School traces back to 1952, when two local districts consolidated into Consolidated High School District 230 specifically to build a new high school. The school was named for Illinois-born poet Carl Sandburg, who consented and expressed his pleasure in a letter to the school board, and ground was broken on the building in May 1953. Built on a former cornfield, the school opened for classes in September 1954 and was formally dedicated that October with Sandburg himself in attendance. Rapid postwar growth drove a string of additions through the 1950s and 1960s. Today Sandburg is one of three high schools in District 230, alongside Stagg and Andrew.
Sandburg offers more than a dozen Advanced Placement courses, including Calculus, Chemistry, U.S. History, and Spanish Language, with students who take AP exams averaging roughly four exams each. The school has been named to Newsweek's list of the top public high schools in the nation on several occasions. With a student-to-teacher ratio of about 16 to 1 and roughly 180 full-time teachers, class sizes average around 23 students, and the school is anchored by a long record of strong test performance and high graduation rates.
The Sandburg Eagles compete in the Southwest Suburban Conference and are a member of the Illinois High School Association. The program has a deep championship pedigree, with IHSA state titles in boys soccer, boys volleyball, wrestling, baseball, softball, badminton, cheerleading, and boys cross country. Sandburg's distance-running tradition is especially notable, producing world-class athlete Lukas Verzbicas, a two-time Gatorade Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year. Beyond the field, the award-winning Marching Eagles have performed in a Presidential Inaugural Parade, the Sugar Bowl, and the London New Year's Day Parade.

Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
