Living in Palos Hills means settling into one of the greenest corners of Chicago's southwest suburbs. The community sits right alongside the Palos Forest Preserves, part of the Cook County Forest Preserves system, so miles of wooded trails, lakes, and open prairie are practically out the back door. It is the kind of place where a Saturday can just as easily mean a hike or a bike ride as a trip to the store, and that ribbon of protected green space is a big part of why families put down roots here.
Education and convenience are woven through daily life. Moraine Valley Community College, one of the top-ranked community colleges in the region, sits on a nearly 300-acre campus nestled in the forest preserves right here in Palos Hills, giving the area a real college-town energy and a steady stream of cultural and athletic events. Students across the area feed into Amos Alonzo Stagg High School, a school regularly ranked among the best public high schools in Illinois and a genuine point of community pride.
The housing here leans toward established, well-kept single-family neighborhoods on generous lots, the kind of mature streets that come with decades of pride of ownership. Add in the surrounding Palos communities of Palos Park, Palos Heights, and Hickory Hills, and you have a tight-knit pocket of the suburbs that rewards anyone looking for space, green, and a strong school district.

The school
In the spring of 1962, voters in Consolidated High School District 230 approved a bond issue to build the district's second high school. It opened in 1964 and was named for Amos Alonzo Stagg, the former University of Chicago football coach. The original building included 16 classrooms, a gymnasium seating 1,600, band and choir rooms, a cafeteria and small theater, laboratories, and industrial arts rooms, and was designed as three connected buildings with future expansion in mind. By the fall of 1966 the school had already reached capacity.
Regularly ranked among the best public high schools in Illinois, Stagg offers a broad curriculum and co-curricular slate and has earned state and national recognition for its work developing empathy in students. As part of Consolidated High School District 230, alongside sister schools Carl Sandburg and Victor J. Andrew, it shares the district's mission and serves a diverse community in the south suburban Chicago area.
Stagg competes in the Southwest Suburban Conference and is a member of the IHSA, fielding teams as the Chargers across a broad slate of boys and girls sports. The wrestling program won the IHSA team state championship in 1984 and has produced individual state champions, including in 2010 and 2012.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
