Living near Hillcrest HS

The area, not just the school

Living around Hillcrest means settling into Hazel Crest and neighboring Country Club Hills, part of the Chicago Southland about 25 miles south of the Loop. It is a genuine commuter's sweet spot. The Metra Electric District stops right in town at the Hazel Crest station and runs straight to Millennium Station downtown, so a car-free workday in the city is realistic. Drivers have it easy too, since Hazel Crest is where Interstate 80 merges with the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), with Kedzie Avenue and Pulaski Road keeping the rest of the south suburbs close.

The housing here has real character and real value. Most of the area's subdivisions were built between the 1950s and 1980s, giving you established neighborhoods and a healthy mix of single-family homes, townhomes, and condominium communities across a wide price range. That makes this a strong pick for first-time buyers and anyone who wants more square footage for their dollar than closer-in suburbs offer. Advocate South Suburban Hospital, the Grande Prairie Public Library, and more than 200 acres of Hazel Crest Park District parks round out day-to-day life.

Hillcrest is a four-year public high school serving grades 9 through 12, with a 2024-25 enrollment of about 1,100 students and roughly 75 teachers, for a student-to-teacher ratio near 15 to 1. Students can take Advanced Placement coursework and exams across a range of subjects.
