Day to day, this is car country. The tradeoff for the space and price is a real commute: there is no Metra station in Wauconda, so rail commuters drive to Barrington or another line, and highway travel toward O'Hare and the job corridors takes 40 minutes or more in traffic. Wauconda's retail along Route 12 is functional rather than a boutique downtown, though Bangs Lake adds genuine recreation a few minutes away.
