The countryside around Kaneland High School is classic western Kane County: a stretch of rolling former farmland on the outer edge of the Chicago metro where Sugar Grove, Elburn, and Maple Park each keep a small-town feel while newer subdivisions fill in around them. Sugar Grove is the largest of the three, anchored by Waubonsee Community College and a recent wave of residential growth along Route 47 and Route 56.
For commuters, the big draw is the Metra Union Pacific West Line, whose western terminus sits in nearby Elburn and runs straight into downtown Chicago at Ogilvie Transportation Center. Sugar Grove itself is not on the line, so most rail commuters drive a few minutes north to the Elburn station and park. Drivers lean on Interstate 88, which clips the north side of Sugar Grove and feeds the office corridor toward Naperville and the western suburbs.
Day to day, life here trades the density of the inner suburbs for space: larger lots, newer single-family homes, the Aurora Municipal Airport and the Virgil Gilman bike trail on the Sugar Grove side, and a short hop to Aurora for big-box shopping and the nearest hospitals. Maple Park stays the most rural of the trio, a small village wrapped in working farmland right next to the high school campus on Keslinger Road.

The school
Kaneland High School opened in 1958 to serve the rural communities of western Kane County and is part of Kaneland Community Unit School District 302. The school played a notable role in Illinois legal history: the case Molitor v. Kaneland Community Unit District 302, arising from a school bus crash in the district's early years, ended governmental tort immunity for public school districts in the state. Today it remains a comprehensive four-year high school drawing from Sugar Grove, Maple Park, Elburn, and the surrounding countryside.
Kaneland High School is a comprehensive high school serving grades 9 to 12, with a stated mission to graduate all students college, career, and community ready. The graduating class of 2014 posted an average composite ACT score of 22.2, the highest in the school's history, while graduating 100 percent of its senior class, and in 2013 the school earned a place on the Illinois Honor Roll for improving its state-test performance.
The Kaneland Knights compete in the Interstate Eight Conference and the Illinois High School Association, and the program has earned eleven IHSA state championships across football, track and field, cross country, basketball, and baseball. The football team won back-to-back state titles in 1997 and 1998 and built a long run of playoff appearances in the years that followed.

Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
