Oak Lawn is a village of roughly 58,000 people in Cook County, just southwest of Chicago, and it has long been one of the most established family suburbs on the city's southwest side. Incorporated in 1909, it grew quickly after World War II as returning veterans settled in, and today it blends classic brick bungalows and ranches with newer condos near its revitalized core.
Getting around is one of Oak Lawn's biggest draws. The village has its own Metra station on the SouthWest Service line, putting downtown Chicago within an easy commute, and I-294 runs nearby for drivers heading across the region. Downtown Oak Lawn, along 95th Street, was rebuilt starting in 2002 with modern mid-rise condos, retail, an expanded Metra station, and a children's museum, so there is a walkable, town-center feel right in the middle of the village.
Families also value the everyday amenities. Advocate Christ Medical Center, one of the largest hospitals and a Level I trauma center in Illinois, is located right in Oak Lawn, and the Oak Lawn Park District maintains more than 300 acres across 22 parks with pools, an ice arena, fitness centers, and an 18-hole golf course.

The school
Harold L. Richards High School opened in 1965 in Oak Lawn, a southwest suburb of Chicago, as part of Community High School District 218. The school is named for Dr. Harold Leland Richards, the district superintendent who served for 33 years from 1935 to 1968. A military veteran of three wars, Dr. Richards held degrees from Pennsylvania Military College and the University of Chicago before leading District 218.
Richards competes as the Bulldogs in the South Suburban Conference. The Bulldogs have won multiple IHSA state championships across boys basketball, football, boys and girls volleyball, and wrestling, and the school's drama program has added an IHSA state title as well.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
