About the community
Wynstone is a private, gated luxury golf community in North Barrington built around an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature course that opened in 1989, the only private Nicklaus Signature course in Illinois. Developed from 1987 on 750 acres of rolling terrain that was once the estate of philanthropist W. Clement Stone, it holds roughly 437 homesites, custom estates, maintenance-free village homes, and golf villas, behind a manned gatehouse with 24-hour security. It is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious gated communities in the Midwest.

Wynstone sits in North Barrington in the Barrington-area countryside, off Route 22, a short drive from downtown Barrington and its Metra station.
Wynstone is built for buyers who want privacy, security, and a golf-centered country club life within reach of the northwest suburbs. Residents are predominantly affluent professionals, executives, and established families drawn to the gated entry, private roads, and 24-hour security, plus the cachet of the only private Nicklaus Signature course in Illinois. Day-to-day life can center on The Club, golf, dining in a colonial-revival clubhouse, tennis and pickleball, swimming, and fitness, inside a 750-acre landscape of lakes, wetlands, and mature woodlands. It is a quiet, manicured, low-density environment rather than a walkable town.
The product mix lets buyers choose their upkeep: large custom estate homes on and off the course for maximum space, and maintenance-free village homes and golf villas for empty-nesters who want to lock and leave. Because the Property Owners Association handles roads, private water and sewer, common grounds, and security, residents get a resort-like managed environment, and the Barrington 220 schools add a strong public-school draw to the private-community appeal.
The honest tradeoffs are cost and commitment. This is a seven-figure market, and carrying costs stack up: a home price generally north of $1 million, mandatory POA dues in the mid-four to low-five figures a year plus water and sub-association charges, and property taxes that commonly run $20,000 to $40,000 or more. If you want the full golf and social experience, The Club is a separate invitation-only membership with sponsorship and its own dues, though it is optional and distinct from owning a home. Location is a mild tradeoff too: it is genuinely suburban and car-dependent, a short drive to the Barrington Metra but not a walk-to-town setting.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.

Your local agent
Most agents will list anything. I focus on the places I actually know, and the things that move value here don't show up in the MLS write-up: which streets and buildings hold demand, what the HOA or assessments really cover, how the comps read once you account for condition and location, and where buyers consistently want to be.
When you're ready to tour or list, you want someone who has read the last 50 closed comps in this specific market, not a national average, and can tell you what they actually mean for your price. That's how I work. Text or call any time, and I'll give you a real take, not a brochure.
