The area, not just the school
Lake Zurich is a northwest suburb of Chicago in Lake County, built around the namesake lake that sits entirely inside the village. The feel is classic collar-county suburban: tree-lined subdivisions, a walkable Paulus Park lakefront, and the Route 12 and Rand Road corridors that anchor everyday shopping and dining.
Getting around is mostly by car here, with the village's location near Routes 12, 22, and 53 putting O'Hare and the Northwest suburbs within easy reach. Commuters bound for downtown Chicago typically drive to nearby Metra stations such as Barrington on the Union Pacific Northwest Line, since the train does not run directly through the village.
Housing leans toward established single-family neighborhoods on generous lots, ranging from mid-century homes near the lake to newer subdivisions in and around Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Deer Park, and North Barrington, the surrounding communities that also feed into Lake Zurich High School. Buyers come for the District 95 schools, the lake-town character, and quick access to both job centers and open space.

The school
About Lake Zurich High School
Lake Zurich High School first opened its doors in 1926 as Ela-Vernon High School, serving Ela and Vernon Townships in Lake County. After a series of disagreements between Vernon Township and Ela Township residents, the district split and Stevenson High School opened in nearby Lincolnshire. The two schools long competed each fall for The Cannon, a miniature steel replica that fired a blank shell when teams took the field, a rivalry trophy retired in 1982 after Lake Zurich won the final game.
Lake Zurich High School was named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, one of the program's top national honors for academic excellence. The school offers a full slate of Advanced Placement courses along with the INCubatoredu entrepreneurship program and dual-credit and career pathways through the Lake County Tech Campus. Students can also earn the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy.
Lake Zurich competes in the North Suburban Conference as a member of the Illinois High School Association, and its Bears have won IHSA state championships in football (2007), competitive cheerleading (2010), and back-to-back competitive dance titles in 2018 and 2019. The 2007 football team finished 13-1 and won the IHSA Class 7A title, the program's signature achievement.
