@otheplaceswegoLiving near Libertyville HS
Living near Libertyville High School means living in one of Lake County's most walkable and welcoming villages. The heart of it is downtown Libertyville along Milwaukee Avenue, a brick-fronted Main Street rebuilt after an 1895 fire that the National Trust for Historic Preservation honored with a Great American Main Street Award. You will find local restaurants, cafes, a bakery, and shops shoulder to shoulder, plus a long-running Thursday farmers market across from Cook Park. Just minutes away, Independence Grove Forest Preserve wraps roughly six miles of trail around a 115-acre lake with a marina and beach, and the Des Plaines River Trail runs for more than 30 miles through Lake County.
Commuting from here is one of the area's biggest draws. Two Metra stations on the Milwaukee District North Line sit in and around Libertyville, putting downtown Chicago's Union Station within a single one-seat ride, and Milwaukee Avenue (Illinois Route 21) is the village's main north-south artery. Drivers reach Chicago in roughly 45 minutes via Interstate 94, and the village sits about 40 miles north of the Chicago Loop and five miles west of Lake Michigan.
The housing character reflects that established, family-oriented feel. Libertyville is a mature, affluent community of about 20,000 residents, and buyers find everything from vintage homes near the historic downtown and Butler Lake to newer subdivisions on the village's edges, all feeding into the well-regarded District 128 high schools.

🏆Strong tradition
IHSA state titles in football (2004) and soccer, and a top-ranked academic record.
The school
Libertyville High School was founded as Libertyville Township High School in 1917, opening with 138 students and seven teachers in the Brainerd Building at Brainerd and West Park Avenues. The Butler Lake campus opened in 1956, and the school grew as it drew students from surrounding communities. In 1964 the school came under the jurisdiction of the newly formed Community High School District 128. When Vernon Hills High School opened in 1999, the entire student body was consolidated at the Butler Lake campus, and the original Brainerd Building, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, was demolished in 2014 to make way for athletic fields.
Libertyville High School has long ranked among the top public high schools in Illinois. In 2010 the Chicago Tribune Illinois School Report Card ranked it the ninth best public high school in the state based on an average composite ACT score of 25.3, with 98 percent of seniors graduating that year. In 2013 the school's average composite ACT score was 26, well above the Illinois state average, and it has been repeatedly recognized in national best high schools rankings. Along with sister school Vernon Hills, District 128 has been cited by U.S. News & World Report among America's best high schools.
Libertyville competes in the North Suburban Conference and is a member of the Illinois High School Association, with the Wildcats as its mascot. The football team won the IHSA state championship in 2004, the girls' soccer team has won two IHSA state titles (1991 and 2001), and the boys' soccer team won an IHSA state title in 2015. Beyond athletics, the school's music program is nationally renowned: its Wind Ensemble was named the University of Illinois Superstate Festival Honor Band repeatedly and performed at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic.
