About Von Steuben Metropolitan Science Center
Von Steuben opened in 1930, first serving the neighborhood as a junior high at Kimball and Carmen avenues in Albany Park, and was designated a senior high school in 1933. It is named for Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, the Prussian-born military officer who trained Continental Army troops during the American Revolution. Today it operates as a Chicago Public Schools magnet high school offering a college-prep program alongside a selective Scholars program of honors and Advanced Placement coursework. It sits on the border of the North Park and Albany Park neighborhoods on Chicago's north side.
Von Steuben is a magnet science center offering Advanced Placement courses and the Project Lead The Way engineering curriculum, plus a selective Scholars program of honors and AP-only classes.
