Living near Lane Tech
The blocks around Addison and Western sit at the meeting point of North Center, Roscoe Village, and Avondale, some of the North Side's most walkable and family-friendly neighborhoods. You are minutes from the boutiques and cafes of Roscoe Village, the restaurants and river paths near the Chicago River, and green space at Welles Park and Horner Park. It is a part of town where you can grab coffee on foot in the morning, catch a Cubs game a mile down Addison at Wrigley Field, and still be home for dinner without ever getting on the highway.
Commuting from here is a genuine selling point. The CTA Brown Line runs straight downtown from the Addison and Irving Park stops, the Blue Line along the Kennedy gives Avondale residents a fast ride to the Loop and O'Hare, and the Kennedy Expressway on-ramps make driving to the suburbs or the airport simple. Housing character runs from classic Chicago brick two-flats and greystones to vintage bungalows and a growing mix of new-construction single-family homes and condos, so buyers can find everything from a starter condo to a forever home within a few blocks of one another.

The school
Lane Tech opened in 1908 as the Albert Grannis Lane Manual Training High School, named for a former Chicago Public Schools principal and superintendent, and it began as an all-boys vocational school. The current 33-acre campus at Addison Street and Western Avenue was dedicated in 1934, when a student body of more than 9,000 boys famously gathered at Wrigley Field and walked west to the new building. Lane adopted a selective admission policy in 1958 on its 50th anniversary, and girls were admitted for the first time in 1971. In 2004 the school was renamed Lane Technical College Prep High School to reflect its college-preparatory mission. Today it is one of the oldest schools in the city and the largest high school in Illinois.
Lane Tech is one of Chicago's selective-enrollment high schools, admitting students by entrance exam and academic benchmarks. Advanced Placement courses are offered across English, history, math, science, art, music, computer science, and world languages, and roughly 97% of students take at least one AP exam, with the school reporting a 96% graduation rate. Lane also runs the largest computer science program in CPS and offers specialized tracks including aquaponics and JROTC.
Lane Tech competes in the Chicago Public League and holds more sports championships than any other Public League school. The 33-acre campus includes Lane Stadium, one of only a handful of stadiums operated by Chicago Public Schools, plus Kerry Wood Cubs Field and a turf soccer field. The school has won 16 state championships in its history, including a boys swimming dynasty that captured nine state titles in the 1930s and 1940s.
