About the community
New Century Town is one of Vernon Hills' foundational master-planned neighborhoods, sited north of Route 60 (Townline Road) and east of Butterfield Road in Lake County. The village annexed hundreds of acres for the project in the early 1970s and it grew into a plan of well over a thousand condominiums, townhomes, and single-family homes, helping ignite the growth that established modern Vernon Hills alongside Hawthorn Mall. Records attribute the homes largely to United Homes, built out from the mid-1970s into the late 1980s. Today it is a mature, tree-filled, walkable community wrapped around the lakes and greenways of Century Park, with a wide housing mix that draws first-time buyers, downsizers, and families.

New Century Town sits in the heart of Vernon Hills' retail and commuter corridor, north of Route 60 and east of Butterfield Road.
New Century Town offers something unusual for the north suburbs: an attainable foothold in a town people usually associate with newer, pricier subdivisions, wrapped around one of the best public parks in Lake County. Daily life here is defined by Century Park, where residents walk and bike the lighted paths around Big and Little Bear Lakes, fish from the piers, sled in winter, and gather at the gazebos and ball fields. The housing mix, from modest condos to full single-family homes, means the neighborhood holds a real cross-section of buyers.
Convenience is a genuine strength. You are minutes from Hawthorn Mall and the Milwaukee Avenue retail corridor, close to major roads (Routes 60, 21, and 45, with I-94 not far east), and inside a village with a deep base of jobs, shopping, and services. Families weigh the strong, well-regarded public schools heavily here, and the walkability to parks, schools, and stores is a recurring selling point that dates back to the neighborhood's original master-plan intent.
The honest tradeoffs are worth stating. These are older homes, generally 1970s and 1980s vintage, so buyers should budget for updates and inspect the usual big-ticket items, and in the attached homes, check the health of the sub-association's reserves. Lake County property taxes are high, which affects monthly carrying costs even when the purchase price is attractive. The Metra option is weekday-only, so car dependence is real for evenings and weekends. And because HOA arrangements differ block to block, two homes a few streets apart can carry very different monthly obligations.

Your local agent
Most agents will list anything. I focus on the places I actually know, and the things that move value here don't show up in the MLS write-up: which streets and buildings hold demand, what the HOA or assessments really cover, how the comps read once you account for condition and location, and where buyers consistently want to be.
When you're ready to tour or list, you want someone who has read the last 50 closed comps in this specific market, not a national average, and can tell you what they actually mean for your price. That's how I work. Text or call any time, and I'll give you a real take, not a brochure.
