Romeoville is a village in Will County, about 26 miles southwest of Chicago, tucked directly west of the Des Plaines River and just off Historic Route 66, now Route 53. It sits between Bolingbrook to the north and Joliet to the south, with quick access to Interstate 55 and Interstate 355. The Weber Road interchange on I-55, which opened in 1990, plugged the village into the rest of Chicagoland and helped fuel a long run of growth. As of the 2020 census, Romeoville was home to roughly 39,800 residents.
For commuters, the area is built around the highway grid and rail. A Metra station on the Heritage Corridor line serves the village, and Pace bus connections are nearby. That mix of interstate and rail access is a big part of the appeal for families who work in the city or the surrounding suburbs but want more house for the money.
The housing character reflects Romeoville's growth story. Once a small river port, the village expanded rapidly through the 1990s and 2000s, building out neighborhoods of newer single-family homes, townhomes, and subdivisions. The result is an accessible, family-oriented suburb where the everyday rhythm is shaped by the I-55 corridor, nearby parks and the river, and a steady supply of relatively modern housing at prices that stretch further than closer-in Chicago suburbs.

The school
Romeoville High School opened in 1963 under the name Lockport West, with school colors of navy blue and white. When the school later became Romeoville High School, orange was added to the color scheme. The school belongs to Valley View Community Unit School District 365U, which gained national attention as the first school district in the United States to adopt the 45-15 plan, a year-round calendar in which three-quarters of students were in session at any one time while others were on break. That practice is no longer in use.
Romeoville competes as the Spartans in the Southwest Prairie Conference and is a member of the Illinois High School Association. Athletic offerings include baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling, along with a cooperative boys hockey club.
