Park Forest and Richton Park sit in Chicago's south suburbs along the historic Sauk Trail, and both carry a real sense of place. Park Forest was purpose-built after World War II as one of the nation's landmark planned communities, designed to give returning veterans and their families attainable homeownership. It was named an All-America City in 1954 and again in 1976, and that intentional, neighborly layout still shapes the village today, from its walkable downtown and cultural arts center to the Park Forest Aqua Center.
For buyers, the appeal here is value and character. Park Forest's housing stock leans toward well-built mid-century homes on established, tree-lined blocks, and Richton Park adds a mix of later subdivisions and single-family neighborhoods just to the west. Commuting is a genuine draw: the Richton Park station anchors the Metra Electric District line, with trains running north to Millennium Station in downtown Chicago, and I-57 and U.S. Route 30 give drivers quick regional reach. Add local parks and a walkable arts district, and this pocket of the Southland offers an affordable, connected place to put down roots.

🎓IB World School
District 227 is authorized for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma programs.
The school
Rich Township High School District 227 grew from one school into three, then consolidated back toward one. Rich East opened in Park Forest in 1952, Rich Central followed in Olympia Fields in 1959, and Rich South opened its Richton Park building in the early 1970s. In October 2019 the school board voted to close Rich East as part of a consolidation plan, and Rich East closed in 2021. Since then the district has treated its two remaining locations as one school on themed campuses: the Fine Arts and Communications Campus in Richton Park, formerly Rich South, and the STEM Campus in Olympia Fields, formerly Rich Central.
Under the district's themed-campus model, the Richton Park campus carries the Fine Arts and Communications focus while the Olympia Fields campus carries the STEM focus. The district is authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School in both the Middle Years and Diploma programs, and reports roughly 20 Advanced Placement courses along with career clusters and dozens of extracurricular offerings.
Athletics are run under the unified Rich Township High School, which competes in the Southland Athletic Conference as a member of the Illinois High School Association. Teams compete as the Raptors in red and black.

Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
