The area, not just the school
Living on the north side of Grayslake means you get the best of central Lake County. The big draw is Rollins Savanna, a 1,200-acre forest preserve laced with crushed-gravel trails, a bird observation deck, and wide-open prairie that feels miles from the city even though downtown Chicago is only about 40 miles away. Downtown Grayslake itself is the kind of walkable, historic main street people move here for, with local shops, the library, Central Park, and a steady run of community events.
Commuting is genuinely easy for a town this far north. Grayslake has two Metra options: the Milwaukee District North Line runs toward Union Station by way of Libertyville, and the Washington Street station on the North Central Service offers weekday trains to Union Station with a stop at O'Hare International Airport. That airport-and-downtown combination is rare in the northern suburbs and a real selling point.
Housing here skews toward established single-family neighborhoods, many with their own parks, plus newer subdivisions on the edges of the village. With strong, well-regarded high schools, the Grayslake North area tends to attract move-up buyers and families who plan to put down roots.

About Grayslake North High School
Grayslake North High School opened in 2004 to relieve crowding at the district's original campus, now Grayslake Central High School. In its first year the building housed all of District 127's ninth graders before transitioning to serve families living north of Washington Street. The 2007-08 school year was the first to enroll all four grade levels. The Knights have since grown into one of the higher-rated public high schools in the Lake County area.
Grayslake North offers a broad college-prep program, including Advanced Placement coursework and Project Lead The Way engineering and biomedical pathways, plus early college credit through dual-credit agreements with the nearby College of Lake County.
The Knights field a full slate of IHSA athletics across all three seasons, with traditions in football, soccer, cross country, softball, bowling, and competitive dance and cheer. The football team reached the IHSA state playoffs every year from 2012 through 2018, and the competitive cheerleading squad has been a regular IHSA state qualifier.
