@contentprochicagoLiving near Glenbrook South HS
Living around Glenbrook South puts you in the heart of Glenview, a polished North Shore suburb about 15 miles northwest of downtown Chicago that manages to feel both relaxed and connected. The commute is one of the area's quiet selling points: two Metra stations on the Milwaukee District North line, the Glenview station and the North Glenview station, run straight into Union Station, so plenty of residents trade the car for the train on workdays. For drivers, the Edens Expressway (I-94) and nearby interstates keep the rest of the metro within easy reach, and Lake Avenue is a familiar main artery through town.
The centerpiece of modern Glenview is The Glen, a 1,121-acre redevelopment of the former Naval Air Station Glenview. It brought The Glen Town Center for shopping and dining, the Kohl Children's Museum, two golf courses, a lake, and miles of walking and biking trails, all woven together with homes and offices. That mix gives buyers a real range, from established tree-lined streets with classic mid-century and traditional homes to newer construction in and around The Glen.
The overall town feel is settled and family-oriented without being sleepy: strong parks, a genuine downtown, and the kind of schools that anchor long-term moves. For families weighing District 225, Glenbrook South is a big part of the draw, and the surrounding neighborhoods reflect that pride. It is the sort of place people put down roots and stay.

The school
Glenbrook South High School opened in 1962 to relieve overcrowding at the original Glenbrook High School, which was renamed Glenbrook North High School the same year. The school is part of Glenbrook High School District 225, and its feeder schools include Attea, Springman, and the Glenview portions of Field and Maple. A major expansion in 2002 added dozens of classrooms and rebuilt the music and performing-arts facilities, with further upgrades following through the 2000s, including renovated science labs, a new pool and fitness center, and updated athletics spaces.
Glenbrook South is regularly recognized as one of Illinois' top public high schools. The school posts a strong Advanced Placement profile, with an AP participation rate around 47 percent and an exam passing rate near 92 percent. It also runs the Glenbrook Academy of International Studies, a selective four-year interdisciplinary program shared with Glenbrook North that pairs English and social studies with rotating world languages including Spanish, French, German, and Mandarin Chinese.
Glenbrook South competes as the Titans in the Central Suburban League and is a member of the IHSA. The school fields a broad slate of boys and girls programs spanning basketball, swimming and diving, volleyball, golf, soccer, track and field, and water polo, plus non-IHSA lacrosse and girls field hockey. Its teams have brought home multiple state championships across decades, and the school is also a powerhouse outside athletics, with a nationally ranked debate program that won the national title in 2014.
