Deerfield sits on Chicago's North Shore in Lake County, about 28 miles north of downtown Chicago, with a population of roughly 19,200. It is consistently listed among the wealthiest and highest-earning places in Illinois, and it is the corporate home of Walgreens Boots Alliance, Baxter, and Fortune Brands, which keeps good jobs close to where families live. For buyers, that mix of quiet residential streets and a strong local economy is a big part of the appeal.
Getting downtown is genuinely easy here. Deerfield has two Metra stations on the Milwaukee District North Line: the downtown Deerfield station on Deerfield Road, and the Lake Cook Road station, which serves the surrounding office parks. Drivers have the Tri-State Tollway, Interstate 94, running through the western edge of the village, plus a spur that connects over to the Edens Expressway a few miles east. Whether you commute by train or car, you have real options.
The walkable downtown around Deerfield Road gives the village a true town center, and neighboring Highland Park and Northbrook are right next door for even more shopping and dining. Families are drawn here for the schools: Deerfield feeds into well-regarded Township High School District 113, one of the highest-performing districts in Illinois. It is the kind of place where you can have a short trip to the city and still come home to a settled, school-focused North Shore community.

The school
Deerfield High School opened in 1959 and graduated its first class in 1963 as a comprehensive public high school in Deerfield. It is part of Township High School District 113, sharing the district with longtime rival Highland Park High School. In 2000 the two sister schools underwent a two-year, $75 million renovation and expansion that added new science and arts wings to Deerfield. Beginning in 2004, the school stopped ranking students and no longer reports class rank to colleges, a move intended to ease academic competition. The school has been named a National Blue Ribbon School multiple times, including in 2009 and 2022.
In the 2018-2019 academic year Deerfield graduated 98 percent of its senior class, with 68 percent of students taking AP classes, and it ranked 12th among Illinois high schools that year. The school has earned National Blue Ribbon recognition in 1992, 2009, and 2022, and in 2024 U.S. News and World Report ranked Deerfield 16th in Illinois. It is also known for strong programs in theater, its student newspaper, congressional debate, television, and scholastic bowl.
The Deerfield Warriors compete in the Central Suburban League, counting in-district sister school Highland Park as a longtime rival. The football stadium is named for former coach Paul Adams, who led the team from 1966 to 1992 through fifteen state-playoff appearances, four state-championship-game appearances, and one state title. The 1977 boys cross country team has been recognized as one of the greatest prep cross country teams of all time.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
