Living near Lindblom
West Englewood sits on Chicago's south side, a community area with deep roots that trace back to nineteenth-century rail junctions and the streetcar suburbs that grew up around them. Today the streets around 63rd and Ashland carry a mix of vintage brick two-flats, sturdy greystones, and single-family homes on generous lots, giving buyers real space and character at price points that are rare this close to the city core. The landmark Lindblom building, with its grand columned entrance, is one of the neighborhood's proudest anchors.
Getting downtown is straightforward. The CTA Green Line Ashland branch terminates at 63rd and Ashland right in the neighborhood, and Metra's Rock Island District line and several bus routes give residents multiple ways into the Loop. For families drawn by Lindblom's selective-enrollment reputation, the surrounding blocks offer a genuine city neighborhood with historic housing stock, close-knit streets, and easy access to parks, libraries, and transit.

The school
Lindblom Math and Science Academy occupies a landmark Beaux-Arts building at 6130 S Wolcott Avenue in West Englewood, completed in 1919 to designs by architect Arthur Hussander and named for Robert E. Lindblom, a Swedish-born Chicago Board of Trade trader. The school opened focused on industrial and technical training and shifted toward college preparation after World War II. In 2003 the building closed for a two-year, 42 million dollar renovation, and it reopened in the fall of 2005 as Lindblom Math and Science Academy, one of Chicago's selective-enrollment high schools. The building, which includes a 2,000-seat auditorium, two gyms, a pool, and a greenhouse, was designated a Chicago Landmark in 2010.
Lindblom is one of Chicago's selective-enrollment high schools, with courses taught at honors or Advanced Placement level on a block schedule and a 7th and 8th grade Academic Center that feeds the high school. It is home to one of the largest Mandarin programs in Chicago and a Biotechnology Center of Excellence, and it has ranked among the top public high schools in Illinois.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
