Living near Hancock College Prep
Clearing sits on Chicago's far southwest side, a quiet residential pocket bordered by Harlem Avenue, Cicero Avenue, and the edge of Midway International Airport. The housing stock is classic Chicago, sturdy brick bungalows, Georgians, and the townhomes and duplexes of Chrysler Village, much of it built through the mid-twentieth century for airport and industrial workers. Streets are lined with mature trees, and neighborhood anchors like Lawler Park and Hale Park give families ballfields, a pool, and open green space close to home.
Getting downtown is simple. The CTA Orange Line runs straight from Midway to the Loop in roughly a half hour, and CTA bus routes tie the area into the wider South and West sides. Buyers are drawn here for value, a strong sense of community, and proximity to the airport without sacrificing a settled, family-friendly feel, with John Hancock College Prep anchoring the neighborhood in its 2021 campus.

The school
John Hancock College Preparatory High School is a public selective-enrollment high school in the Clearing neighborhood on Chicago's southwest side, named for American Revolution patriot and statesman John Hancock. The school opened as an elementary school in 1999 and was converted into a high school in 2002. In 2015 Chicago Public Schools reorganized Hancock as a selective-enrollment school and phased out its attendance boundary, with the last neighborhood-enrollment class graduating in 2018. In August 2021 Hancock moved into a brand-new building at 5437 W 64th Place featuring specialized subject suites, a black box theater, and a media center.
Hancock is one of Chicago's selective-enrollment college preparatory high schools, admitting students through the district's GoCPS process rather than by home address. It has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, and its mission emphasizes respect, integrity, and responsibility alongside postsecondary success.
Hancock competes in the Chicago Public League as the Eagles and is a member of the Illinois High School Association.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
