Carol Stream sits in the heart of DuPage County, an established western suburb about 30 miles from downtown Chicago by way of North Avenue. It was famously planned from scratch in the late 1950s and named for the founder's daughter, and that built-to-be-lived-in spirit still shows. You get tidy residential streets, a real town center at the Ross Ferraro Town Center, and an unusually deep park system: the Carol Stream Park District maintains 36 parks, including Coral Cove Water Park and the Great Western Trail running right through town.
Housing here leans toward comfortable, family-friendly value. The area has long drawn buyers who want suburban space and good schools without the price tags of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn next door, and nearby Glendale Heights and Bloomingdale fold in even more options. For commuters, North Avenue, Army Trail Road, and Geneva Road are the east-west spines, and Metra riders typically drive a short hop to the Wheaton or Winfield stations on the Union Pacific West line for a straight shot to Ogilvie.

The school
Glenbard North, known locally as GBN or North, opened in August 1968 at the corner of Kuhn Road and Lies Road in Carol Stream. It was the third of the four high schools in Glenbard Township High School District 87, joining Glenbard West, Glenbard East, and later Glenbard South. Burt Weber held the principal's post from 1971 to 1989, the longest tenure in school history, and the campus football field, Weber Field, is named in his honor. The North campus serves students from Carol Stream and nearby Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, and Bloomingdale.
Glenbard North is one of four schools in Glenbard Township High School District 87, one of the largest high school districts in Illinois with about 7,800 students. All four Glenbard schools offer Advanced Placement coursework and exams, and the district reports test scores and graduation rates that exceed state averages while keeping per-student operating expense below the state average for large high school districts.
Glenbard North's teams are the Panthers, competing in the DuKane Conference and in IHSA state tournaments. Wrestling is a flagship program: under longtime coach Mark Hahn the Panthers won the 2011 IHSA Class 3A dual-team state title. Boys and girls gymnastics each brought home multiple state championships, and football, which plays at Weber Field, has been a frequent state-playoff qualifier.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
