Burbank is one of those classic southwest suburbs that feels like a neighborhood more than a town. It sits right up against Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood on its eastern edge, so you get genuine close-to-the-city living without the city tax bill. The streets are lined with well-kept brick bungalows, capes, and ranch homes from the mid-20th century, tidy lots, mature trees, and the kind of block where people still wave from the porch. It is a dense, walkable, family-first kind of place, and homeownership runs high, which gives the area a settled, rooted feel.
Getting around is one of Burbank's quiet superpowers. Cicero Avenue, Illinois Route 50, runs north and south straight through town and feeds directly onto both I-294, the Tri-State Tollway, and I-55, the Stevenson Expressway, so a downtown commute or a run to the suburbs is straightforward. Chicago Midway International Airport sits less than two miles north, which is a dream for frequent flyers and a real draw for buyers who travel for work. Metra and CTA options on the surrounding edges round out the transit picture.
Day to day, life here leans practical and friendly. You are close to the shopping and dining along Cicero and Harlem, parks and the local pool give the kids somewhere to land in summer, and the whole area carries that working, proud, southwest-side identity. For buyers who want an affordable single-family home, a short hop to the airport and the expressways, and a community school like Reavis at the center of it all, Burbank is an easy place to put down roots.

The school
Reavis High School opened in 1950 in Burbank, a near southwest suburb of Chicago, and is named for William Claude Reavis (1881-1955), a University of Chicago professor who played a major role in guaranteeing the school's completion. In a notable early chapter, the school hosted all of the wrestling matches for the 1959 Pan American Games. The Rams compete in the South Suburban Conference and are a longtime member of the Illinois High School Association.
Reavis serves roughly 1,930 students across grades 9 through 12 and graduates about 86 percent of them, with most graduates going on to post-secondary education. The school places a strong emphasis on career and technical education, with more than 1,000 students enrolled in CTE courses, and reported an average SAT score of 1120 in 2025.
The Reavis Rams field teams across the South Suburban Conference, and the school has built a deep tradition in both sports and the competitive fine arts. The football program captured an IHSA state championship in 1983 and reached the title game in 1981 and 1982, while the wrestling program won three early state crowns in the 1960s. Off the field, Reavis is a powerhouse in IHSA Drama, claiming six state championships, and in Group Interpretation with two titles.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
