Living around Woodstock means waking up minutes from one of the most photographed town squares in the Midwest. The historic Woodstock Square, anchored by the 1890 Opera House and the Old McHenry County Courthouse, is the real heart of town: a brick-paved plaza ringed by independent shops, coffee houses, and a year-round calendar of farmers markets, summer concerts, and festivals. Film buffs know the Square as the backdrop for the 1993 classic Groundhog Day, and the town leans into it every February. It is the kind of place where neighbors actually know each other and a Saturday morning can stretch into the afternoon without ever leaving the four sides of the green.
For buyers, Woodstock offers something increasingly rare: small-town character with a real commute option. The Woodstock Metra station sits on the Union Pacific Northwest line, putting downtown Chicago within a one-seat ride and giving the city stronger ridership than many closer-in suburbs. Illinois Route 47 runs north and south through town for easy local driving, and Route 120 connects you east toward McHenry. Housing character runs the full range, from stately Victorian and turn-of-the-century homes near the Square to mid-century neighborhoods and newer subdivisions built as the city grew through the 1990s and 2000s.

The school
Woodstock High School opened in 1921 and serves the city of Woodstock, the county seat of McHenry County, as part of Woodstock Community Unit School District 200. The district was formed in 1969 and today educates roughly 6,600 students across early-learning, elementary, middle, and high school campuses. For decades Woodstock High was the city's lone public high school, until rapid local growth in the 1990s and 2000s led the district to open Woodstock North High School in 2008. Woodstock High remains the original, with its teams competing as the Blue Streaks in royal blue and white.
Woodstock High School offers Advanced Placement courses and exams, giving students the chance to earn college credit before graduation. The school carries a student-to-teacher ratio of about 16 to 1, and detailed proficiency and college-readiness metrics are published on the Illinois Report Card.
Woodstock's Blue Streaks football program is the school's banner athletic achievement, winning two IHSA state championships. The 1983 team took the Class 4A title, and the unbeaten 1997 squad finished 14-0 to win the Class 5A crown. The school competes across a full slate of IHSA sports in the Kishwaukee River Conference.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
