@pinecrest.golf.clLiving near Maine South HS
Living around Maine South means living in Park Ridge, a classic Chicago suburb that feels like a small town while sitting right at the edge of the city. The heart of it is Uptown Park Ridge, where the historic Pickwick Theatre marquee glows over a walkable stretch of shops, coffee spots, and restaurants. Weekends here look like farmers markets, school games, and neighbors who actually know each other. It is the kind of community where people grow up, move away, and then come back to raise their own kids.
Commuting is one of Park Ridge's biggest draws. The town sits on Metra's Union Pacific Northwest line, with the Park Ridge station roughly 13 miles from Ogilvie Transportation Center downtown, so a car-free workday in the Loop is realistic. O'Hare International Airport is only a 10-to-15-minute drive, and you are minutes from I-90 and I-294, which makes both business travel and weekend getaways painless.
The housing stock is part of the appeal: stately older homes, brick Georgians and Tudors, mid-century ranches, and newer custom builds sit on mature, established blocks. Buyers come here for the combination of strong schools, a real downtown they can walk to, and a genuine sense of community, and that demand keeps Park Ridge one of the most stable and desirable markets on the near-northwest side.

The school
Maine South High School opened in 1964, built to meet the growing educational needs of Park Ridge and parts of Niles, Harwood Heights, Norridge, and unincorporated Cook County near Chicago. Its first principal, Clyde Watson, was appointed in December 1963 so he could begin forming the first parent and music booster clubs before the doors opened. In 1973 the North Central Association rated Maine South as one of the top 10 high schools in the nation, and in the 1988-89 school year the U.S. Department of Education recognized it as a Blue Ribbon School. Because the campus sits near O'Hare International Airport, the school received federal funds in 1996 to install soundproof windows and air conditioning, a project completed around 2000.
Maine South offers programs ranging from remedial academy classes to accelerated honors and Advanced Placement courses, and its Foreign Language Department runs five-year programs in French, German, Italian, and Spanish plus a four-year Mandarin program. The school has historically ranked among the top public non-magnet high schools in Illinois. Beyond the classroom it has a deep record in academic competition: its Scholastic Bowl team won a state championship in 2007, its chess team won IHSA state titles in the 2000s, and the Mock Trial team won the Illinois state championship in 2023.
Maine South competes in the Central Suburban League South Division and enters the largest IHSA classes in each sport. Its football program is one of the most storied in Illinois: the Hawks reached the Class 8A state championship game six times between 2003 and 2011, won three straight state titles from 2009 through 2011, and have qualified for the IHSA playoffs every year since 1992. The program is nicknamed QB High for the run of quarterbacks who earned Division I scholarships. Across sports, Maine South has claimed IHSA state crowns in boys basketball, girls swimming and diving, boys volleyball, and more.

Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
