Life around Peotone and neighboring Monee has a rural, small-town rhythm that is getting harder to find this close to Chicago. Monee still feels like a quiet village, sitting about 40 miles south of downtown, while Peotone spreads out into the farmland of eastern Will County. Buyers who come here are usually after what the tighter suburbs cannot offer: more land, elbow room, and a slower pace, and it is common to find properties with acreage and even a few farm animals.
For commuters, the trade-off works because the connections are close by. Monee does not have its own Metra stop, but the University Park station, the southern terminus of the Metra Electric District line, is just a few minutes away and runs straight into downtown Chicago, a predictable ride of roughly 60 to 70 minutes. Interstate 57 is right there for drivers, and Illinois Route 50 cuts through the area, giving quick access north to the city and around the rest of Will County.
The outdoors are a real part of the draw. South of town, the Monee Reservoir offers a lake that anglers love for bluegill, catfish, and largemouth bass, and next door the Raccoon Grove Nature Preserve protects woodlands, prairie, and wetlands. Add in the community-centered Peotone schools and the wide-open feel, and you get an area that appeals to buyers who want land, an easy path into the city, and a true small-town address.

The school
Peotone High School is a public four-year high school in Peotone, a far-south community of eastern Will County. Peotone Community Unit School District 207U is one of the longest surviving school districts in Will County, and as the community grew the high school's location changed twice after 1954 to keep pace with the population. Construction on the current building began in 2000 and was completed just in time for classes to open on August 28, 2001. The new campus was set aside for grades 9 through 12, while the former Peotone Junior-Senior High School became Peotone Middle School. The school draws students from the south, central, and eastern parts of Will County plus a small slice of northwestern Kankakee County, including the Green Garden, Manhattan, Peotone, Will, and Wilton townships.
Peotone offers a broad curriculum across departments including Agriculture, Business, Family and Consumer Sciences, Industrial Technology, English, Foreign Language, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, Science, and Social Studies. Advanced Placement courses are offered in U.S. History, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science Principles, and Calculus AB. Juniors and seniors also have the option to attend the Kankakee Area Career Center in Bourbonnais for half-day career and technical programs in fields such as Automotive Technology, Health Occupations, and Welding Technology.
Peotone competes as the Blue Devils in the Illinois Central Eight Conference, fielding a full slate of IHSA programs including football, basketball, baseball, softball, and girls soccer.

Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
