@danirenee17Living near Proviso East HS
Living near Proviso East puts you right in the heart of Chicago's near west suburbs, where Maywood and neighboring Melrose Park share an established, leafy feel and an unbeatable position for getting around. The Metra Union Pacific West line runs through here, with the Melrose Park station near the Maywood and Melrose Park border, so a downtown commute to Ogilvie Transportation Center is a short ride rather than a daily ordeal. For drivers, the Eisenhower Expressway, I-290, cuts straight through the area for quick access to the Loop to the east and the western suburbs beyond.
The housing here leans toward classic, affordable Chicagoland character: brick bungalows, two-flats, and single-family homes on tree-lined blocks, with price points that tend to run friendlier than the better-known towns just next door. Oak Park and River Forest border the area to the east, so you get the cultural draw and dining of those communities close at hand.
This is a part of Cook County with deep roots and strong community ties, anchored by institutions like Loyola University Medical Center nearby and a network of parks and local main streets. For buyers who want genuine value, a real commute advantage, and proximity to both the city and the western suburbs, the area around Proviso East is worth a serious look.

The school
Proviso East High School opened in 1911 as Proviso Township High School and is the original campus of Proviso Township High Schools District 209, serving Maywood and the neighboring villages of Broadview, Forest Park, and Melrose Park. By 1957, the last year it was the district's only school, enrollment had topped 4,800 students, prompting the board to open a sister school and rename the original campus Proviso East, effective in 1958. The school is known statewide for its basketball tradition: the Pirates won IHSA boys basketball state championships in 1969, 1974, 1991, and 1992 and produced a long line of college and professional players.
Proviso East serves roughly 1,660 students in grades 9 through 12 as the flagship campus of Proviso Township High Schools District 209, with a student-to-teacher ratio of about 16 to 1. Current course offerings and performance data are published each year on the Illinois Report Card.
The Proviso East Pirates compete in the West Suburban Conference and the Illinois High School Association, and the program is a statewide power across multiple sports. Boys basketball has claimed four state titles, the wrestling program ranks among the all-time leaders in IHSA state championships, and the Pirates have also won state crowns in baseball, boys cross country, boys gymnastics, and boys track and field.
