@danirenee17Living near Elmwood Park HS
Living in Elmwood Park puts you right on Chicago's near-northwest doorstep without giving up that settled, neighborly suburban feel. The village is compact, a little under two square miles, tucked between Oak Park and River Forest to the south and the city line to the east, so you are minutes from the forest preserves and some of the best Italian groceries and restaurants in Chicagoland. The village carries a strong Italian American heritage alongside a growing Latino community, and that mix shows up in its bakeries, delis, and corner spots.
The commute is one of the real selling points. The Elmwood Park station on Metra's Milwaukee District West line runs daily into Chicago Union Station, so a downtown workday does not require a car, and Pace and CTA buses connect the rest of the region. Drivers are close to I-290 and the I-90 corridor for getting around the metro. For a place this close to the city, getting in and out is genuinely easy.
Housing here has real character and tends to hold its value. You will find classic Chicago-style brick bungalows, sturdy two-flats, and well-kept single-family homes on tidy blocks, the kind of solid masonry construction that lasts. Because the village is so compact and every student attends the same high school, it is an attractive entry point for buyers who want city access, a true small-town feel, and one school that pulls the whole community together.

The school
Elmwood Park High School opened for classes in 1954 as the public four-year high school serving the village of Elmwood Park, a western suburb on Chicago's near-northwest edge. The school sits at 8201 West Fullerton Avenue and enrolls its students from within Elmwood Park itself, giving it a true single-community identity. It is the high school of Elmwood Park Community Unit School District 401, which serves the village from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
Elmwood Park High School offers Advanced Placement and honors courses alongside a strong career-and-technical track. Through partnerships with Triton College, the Technology Center of DuPage, and Benedictine University, students can earn dual credit and pursue programs including nursing-assistant certification, welding, criminal justice, and marketing. The school reports a four-year graduation rate of about 86 percent.
The Elmwood Park Tigers belong to the Illinois High School Association and compete in the Metro Suburban Conference. Teams include football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, cross country, track and field, golf, tennis, and wrestling. The football program won the conference title in 2012 for the first time since 1985 and earned a co-championship again in 2017.
