Living near Crete-Monee HS
Crete sits at the far southern edge of the Chicago metro in Will County, about 30 miles from the Loop and only a few miles from the Indiana border. Locals call it the Gateway to the Southland, and the village keeps a genuine small-town feel with a historic Main Street, Goodenow Grove Forest Preserve for hiking and winter sledding, and Governors State University right next door in University Park.
For commuters, the draw is real. The Metra Electric District line runs to the University Park station just minutes from Crete, putting a one-seat ride into downtown Chicago within reach, and drivers lean on Illinois Route 394 just west of the village and nearby I-57 to move north toward the city or south toward Kankakee.
Housing in Crete leans toward established single-family neighborhoods on generous lots, a mix of mid-century homes and newer construction, with values that stretch a budget further than many closer-in suburbs. You get mature trees, sidewalks, and a community-school identity anchored by Crete-Monee, all at a price point that still surprises people the first time they tour the area.

The school
Crete-Monee High School was established in 1948 and serves the far south Chicago suburbs of Crete, Monee, University Park, and portions of Park Forest in Will County. The current building opened in 2007, replacing the older campus that later became the Crete-Monee Middle School. The school competes athletically as the Warriors in the Southland Athletic Conference.
Crete-Monee offers Advanced Placement coursework beginning in sophomore year and early college credit through dual-credit programs with Kankakee Community College and Prairie State College, plus a Project Lead the Way STEM curriculum. The school's reported four-year graduation rate is about 92 percent, above the Illinois state average.
Crete-Monee fields a full slate of IHSA sports as the Warriors, with football its flagship program. On November 24, 2012, the Warriors completed an undefeated 14-0 season by beating Cary-Grove 33-26 in Champaign to claim the IHSA Class 6A football state championship, the first state football title in school history. Future NFL receiver LaQuon Treadwell starred in that title run.
