Living near Tilden
Tilden sits in Chicago's New City community area, home to the historic Back of the Yards and Canaryville neighborhoods just southwest of downtown. This is one of the city's most affordable and most walkable South Side pockets, with classic brick two-flats, worker cottages, and bungalows on tight, tree-lined blocks.
You get quick access to the Loop via the Dan Ryan and Metra, and the area carries a rich immigrant and labor history that still shapes its character. For first-time buyers and investors, it offers a real value story close to the city center, with new investment reshaping the corridor around 47th and Ashland.

The school
Edward Tilden Career Community Academy traces its roots to Lake High School, founded in 1881 in the then-independent Lake Township and folded into Chicago Public Schools when the township was annexed to the city in 1889. The current landmark building on South Union Avenue was designed by architect Dwight H. Perkins and built between 1904 and 1905, and the school was renamed in 1915 to honor Edward Tilden, a former president of the Chicago Board of Education.
Tilden is a neighborhood career and community academy within Chicago Public Schools serving roughly 288 students across grades 9 through 12, with a small student-to-teacher ratio of about 11 to 1. The great majority of Tilden students come from the surrounding New City community.
Tilden's teams, the Blue Devils, compete in the Chicago Public League and the IHSA in blue and gold. The boys basketball team won Public League city championships in the 1940s and captured regional titles in the 2010s.

Thinking of selling?
Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
