Living near Clemente Academy
This stretch of Chicago's near Northwest Side is one of the most characterful parts of the city. Western Avenue threads through West Town, with Humboldt Park to the west, Ukrainian Village just south, and the buzz of Wicker Park a few blocks east. You get a real neighborhood feel here: Puerto Rican flags arching over Division Street, century-old churches, corner bakeries, and murals that tell the area's story. It is walkable, lively, and genuinely diverse, the kind of place where longtime families and newer arrivals share the same blocks.
Getting downtown is easy. The CTA Blue Line runs right through the area and gets you to the Loop or O'Hare without a car, and a web of bus routes fills in the rest. That transit access is a big part of why buyers love this pocket: you can live on a quiet residential street and still be a short ride from everything.
Housing here is a mix that rewards the patient buyer. You will find classic Chicago two-flats and three-flats, brick and stone greystones, vintage condo conversions, and pockets of new construction where developers have filled in. Humboldt Park itself, with its lagoon, fieldhouse, and wide-open green space, anchors the west side of the neighborhood and hosts the annual Puerto Rican festival. Add in the restaurants and coffee shops spilling over from Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village, and you have a part of the city that feels both rooted and on the rise.

The school
Roberto Clemente Community Academy is a public four-year high school in the West Town community area on Chicago's near Northwest Side, named for Puerto Rican baseball Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente. The school traces its roots to 1892, when it opened as Northwest Division High School, and it was renamed Tuley High School in 1906. In 1974 the school moved into a new building across the street and was renamed for Clemente after students pushed for the change. The school has long been a center of Puerto Rican community life in Chicago, with murals along Division Street celebrating Puerto Rican culture, and today it serves a diverse student body with an emphasis on multicultural education and community engagement.
Clemente is a wall-to-wall International Baccalaureate World school, meaning IB pedagogy runs across the whole building. Students can pursue the IB Diploma Programme, the Career-related Programme, and the Middle Years Programme, alongside career-and-technical pathways in Allied Health, Broadcast Technology, and Culinary Arts. Per Wikipedia, the graduation rate was 84 percent as of 2019. The campus includes remodeled science labs, music and fine-arts rooms, two gymnasiums, and a renovated media center with a film lab and audio recording studio.
Clemente's teams are the Wildcats, competing in the Chicago Public League and the IHSA. Baseball is the school's signature program: the boys' baseball team won the Public League championship nine times between the 1970s and the early 2000s, a run that produced ten Chicago city baseball championships from 1973 to 2005.
