Living near CVCA
Living around Chicago Vocational puts you in the heart of the Far South Side, where Avalon Park, Chatham, and South Chicago meet. This is classic Chicago bungalow country: solid brick bungalows, Cape Cods, and raised ranches on tidy blocks, most built for middle-class families after the First World War. The 27-acre Avalon Park anchors the neighborhood with a fieldhouse, gym, and open green space, and the business corridors along 79th Street and Stony Island Avenue keep everyday errands close to home. It is a proud, settled part of the city with deep community roots.
Commuting downtown is one of the area's quiet advantages. The Metra Electric Line, with stops around 83rd and 87th, can carry you to Millennium Station near the Loop in roughly 20 to 25 minutes, and the Chicago Skyway gives drivers a fast shot toward the Indiana line. You get the feel of a residential, tree-lined enclave with South Side price points, plus a genuine architectural landmark in the Art Deco campus watching over the neighborhood. For buyers who want space, character, and a real commute story, this pocket of the city delivers.

The school
Chicago Vocational School opened in 1941 in the Avalon Park neighborhood, its landmark building partially funded through the Works Progress Administration. With the United States entering World War II, the school was turned over to the U.S. Navy in 1941 to train aviation mechanics, and the Navy returned it in 1946. The Art Deco campus is the largest non-skyscraper example of Art Deco architecture in Chicago and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.
As a career and technical academy, Chicago Vocational Career Academy is built around an Education-to-Careers model in which students select a major within a themed school, such as Construction and Manufacturing or Transportation. The school has a long vocational tradition, once offering up to 30 trade programs, and it activated the first ROTC program at a Chicago high school since 1946 back in 1958.
Chicago Vocational competes as the Cavaliers in the Chicago Public League and in Illinois High School Association state series. The program has produced a remarkable roster of professional athletes, and the building hosted the weightlifting competition for the 1959 Pan American Games.

Not a Zestimate. A real CMA from someone who's sold this neighborhood, knows the floor plan premiums, and can tell you which upgrades the buyer pool here actually pays for.
