The area, not just the school
Antioch sits at the very top of Lake County, right where Illinois meets Wisconsin, and it is built around water. The village calls itself the Gateway to the Chain O'Lakes, and that is not just a slogan. The Chain O'Lakes along the Fox River is right here, so summers are about boating, fishing, and lake days, while winter brings skiing and snowmobiling. If you want a home where the lake is part of daily life, this is one of the few spots in the Chicago area that truly delivers it.
Downtown Antioch is the heart of the village, with locally owned boutiques, restaurants, bars, and gift shops, plus a bandshell that hosts concerts, parades, craft fairs, and festivals through the year. It has the kind of small-town Main Street feel that is getting harder to find, and the community theatre has been part of the scene since 1960.
What makes Antioch work for buyers is that you get all of that without giving up the commute. Metra's North Central Service runs from the Antioch station straight into Chicago Union Station, and Antioch sits roughly halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee, so you have two metro areas within reach. Housing here skews to a mix of established single-family neighborhoods, newer growth along the Route 173 corridor, and lakefront and near-lake properties, with the Wisconsin border just minutes north.

The school
About Antioch Community High School
Antioch Community High School opened in 1915 at 1133 Main Street, originally named Antioch Township High School. The building grew with the village across the decades: a north wing in 1926, a 1953 expansion that converted the old gym into an auditorium, and a 1962 addition that brought science labs, a cafeteria, and a library. The school was renamed Antioch Community High School in 1963. The original building was razed in 1998 for a major remodel, and a third gymnasium was added in 2004.
Per the school's reported figures, Antioch's 2015 ACT composite score was 21.9, its graduation rate was 95 percent, 89 percent of seniors were listed as college-bound, and the attendance rate was 93.2 percent.
Antioch competes as the Sequoits in the Northern Lake County Conference. The school fields a full slate of boys' and girls' sports, and its chief rival is Lakes Community High School, the district's other high school. The softball team won the IHSA Class 3A state championship in 2026.
