About Northside College Preparatory High School
Northside College Preparatory High School opened in 1999 as the first new Chicago Public Schools high school built in two decades, part of Mayor Richard M. Daley's plan to reinvent the city's public schools. As a citywide selective-enrollment school it drew immediate attention, and in the years since it has grown into one of the most recognized public high schools in Illinois, teaching almost entirely at the Honors and Advanced Placement levels.
Northside is regularly ranked at or near the top of Illinois high schools and among the best public high schools in the nation. Outside of physical education, every course is taught at the Honors or Advanced Placement level, with 24 AP classes and advanced math through Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. More than 99 percent of graduates go on to college.
Northside competes in the Chicago Public League as the Mustangs in maroon and silver, and is a member of the Illinois High School Association. The program has been strongest in cross country and track and field, and in 2016 the girls cross country team became the only Chicago Public Schools squad to finish in the top six at the state championships.
